"For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he." (Proverbs 23:7) One of the most powerful and destructive battles that goes on in every human being's life is one that is not even fought in the physical realm - but one fought in the mind. Every day thousands of messages enter into our minds - consciously, and subconsciously. Sometimes these messages convey truth, sometimes they don't. These messages come not only from other human beings, but from spiritual beings as well.
Many of these messages have to do with who we are as human beings - our identities. They have to do with our significance, our sinful nature, our shame, and our purpose. One of the key themes in the Bible is God's transformation of human beings through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Although we often don't realize it, this transformation changed our identity. Now we've been given the choice to choose whether to view ourselves through our old identity, or through our new identity in Christ.
Below is an incomplete reference of what our new identity entails. If we can replace our old thoughts with these new thoughts, we will be able to live our new identity. This, however, is not an easy task, since the last thing Satan wants is a believer fully putting on their new identity in Christ. Regardless of the battle Satan will storm on us, our new identity is a reality, a fact that Satan cannot steal from us.
